1998 TPC • Granowicz blows away field, wins TPC in record fashion

East Jordan, MI, USA
September 18 – 20, 1998
Rd1 – Antrim Dells GC
Rd2 – Little Traverse Bay GG
Rd3 – Boyne Mountain (Monument GC)

Doug Granowicz (Canton, MI) took advantage of a generous handicap, played solid golf, and captured his first TPC title.

Granowicz’s record opening round of 56, one likely never to be equaled, had all players competing for the runner-up position.

His closing rounds of 69 and 68 did nothing but increase his margin of victory, stretching out his lead each round (1st – 11, 2nd – 15, 3rd – 22).

“Each of us has been put on earth with the ability to do something well” stated Granowicz. “We cheat ourselves and the world if we don’t use that ability as best we can.”

Others finishing in the top five were 2nd Todd Statetzny (Dearborn Heights, MI), 3rd Karl Nagy (Plymouth, MI), 4th Ron Clifton (Plainwell, MI) and 5th Andy Kurncz (Dearborn, MI).
