Not deterred by his playoff loss last year, Karl Nagy (Simpsonville, SC) dominated the field to win the 2008 TPC.
His opening round of 70 placed him two shots ahead of Jeff Longeway (Plymouth, MI) after 18 holes.
However, it was Nagy’s second round of 71 that all but locked up his victory, increasing the lead to 14 strokes over four others, including eventual runner-up Jeff Pretzer (Macomb, MI).
Upon hoisting the trophy, Nagy exclaimed “Triumph or failure depends more upon attitude than upon capacity. Successful men always act as though they have accomplished something. Act, look and feel successful, conduct yourself accordingly, and you will be amazed at the positive results.”
Other top five finishers include 3rd Kurt Goetzke (Berkley, MI), 4th Steve Lawler (Macomb Twp, MI) and 5th Andy Kurncz (Fenton, MI).
Nagy’s victory was his second TPC title (1999, 2008), which moves him into a privileged group of multiple winners alongside Coree Raden (Caledonia, MI – 2001, 2002, 2006) and Goetzke (1996, 2007).
Noteworthy – Nagy’s 13 shot margin of victory is the third largest in TPC history, behind Doug Granowicz (1998 – 22 shots) and Matt Maser (1997 – 18 shots).
