Jeff Longeway (Plymouth, MI) breezed to his 2nd title with victory at the 2010 TPC.

Longeway led the entire way. His opening round of 74 bested the field by 7, then he stretched the margin to 11 with a second round 66.

Dan McKay (Warren, MI), who was positioned in 2nd place through 36 holes, faltered over the last two rounds to finish sixth.

Kurt Goetzke (Berkley, MI), who finished 2nd, played even with Longeway over the last two rounds, however still finished a distant 22 shots back.

This year’s event, tri-sanction with the NGA, HGA and LBGA, was played by modified rules. All players were required to use old school persimmon woods and blade putters, and all ball dropping had to occur over the shoulder.

Longeway stated “It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.”

Defending champion Andy Kurncz’s (Fenton, MI) bid for back-to-back TPC’s fell shy, as he finished 54 shots back of Longeway in 7th place.

Other top five finishers include 3rd Steve Lawler (Macomb Twp, MI), 4th Jeff Pretzer (Macomb, MI) and 5th Karl Nagy (Simpsonville, SC).

This title moves Longeway into an elite category of multiple winners (2003, 2010), alongside Coree Raden (Caledonia, MI – 2001, 2002, 2006), Goetzke (1996, 2007) and Nagy (1999, 2008).

Noteworthy – Friday’s 3rd round tournament average of 98.03 was the highest in TPC history. Secondly, Longeway’s 22 stroke victory ties Doug Granowicz (1998) for the largest victory margin in TPC history.
