In a sweet twist of fate, ex-Michigan State golfer Chris Lemmon (Richmond, VA) won his first TPC title in Ann Arbor.
Lemmon, who trailed eventual runner-up Matt Maser (Louisville, KY) and two-time champion Steve Lawler (Chesterfield, MI) entering the final round, played stellar golf to win by 5 points.
This year’s event was played under the modified Kurnczieford scoring system, were points were awarded based on hole score (double eagle 8 , eagle 5, birdie 3, par 1, bogey 0, double bogey -1, triple bogey -2 and quadruple bogey or worse -4).
An exuberant Lemmon announced “Winning is not a sometime thing, it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”
Defending champion Steve Lawler (Chesterfield, MI) finished a respectable 4th place.
Other top five finishers include 3rd Kurt Goetzke (Berkley, MI) and 5th Andy Kurncz (Fenton, MI).
